Our Program

Taroona High @ UTAS Sandy Bay

This unique partnership between Taroona High School and UTAS provides an exciting variety of Year 11 and 12 options.

We’re setting students up to be lifelong learners with the TCE, ATAR and VET pathways.  Our Years 11 and 12 program capitalises on its unique partnership with the University with a contemporary curriculum allowing students to individualise their learning journey.

Taroona High @ UTAS Sandy Bay offers a range of courses which enable students to gain their TCE as well as an ATAR. There is also the option for students to learn to plan and fly drone missions in the VET Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot) course with the opportunity to sit the CASA Remote Pilot Licence and Radio Operators Licence exams.

Students can choose subjects which build capabilities in important and highly sought-after STEM pathways with the potential to study a Renewable Energy or a Life Science ‘stream’ within the course offerings on site.  In addition to the diverse STEM learning program Taroona High @ UTAS also supports shared enrolments so that each student may follow their individual passions.

‘Sharing an enrolment between Taroona and Hobart College has been seamless.’

Courses connect to the real world including academic and industry linkages. Flying drones and researching solar energy are just some of the ‘hands on’ learning experiences available as part of the offerings.

The University Connection Program (UCP) in Entrepreneurship gives students the chance to gain university credit as well as contributing to an ATAR.

‘I chose to study Entrepreneurship because I wanted to learn new ways to think about problems. It has already opened doors for me and provided me tools that I will be able to use for the rest of my life’

Located on the UTAS Sandy Bay campus, students have the chance to get a feel for life on a university campus. Science practicals are held in the university laboratories.

‘Access to University facilities and staff is giving me a unique perspective on how to plan my future. It also gives me a feeling of independence.’

Taroona High @ UTAS Sandy Bay offers something for a wide range of student interests and pathways.

‘As a student here, I feel like I am highly valued and a part of the team.’
