Learning Support

Taroona High School is committed to providing inclusive learning opportunities for all students. Recent developments in educational research have allowed us to adopt the Universal Design for Learning model, ensuring access and support for our students from the outset of our planning.  The school adopts a tiered intervention approach to helping students to learn, in class differentiation forms the foundation of both our extension and intervention. In Tier 2, small group intervention support students who need extra support to reach National Curriculum standard, or to extend themselves,  in each of our Collaborative Teaching Areas.

Some of Our Support Programs

We offer a wide variety of Tier 3 programs to help students achieve their potential, currently, Literacy support is offered using both Macquarie University’s Macqlit and Fountas and Pinnell’s Level Literacy Intervention programs to students who require more intensive help for them reach their best. Students interested in in learning Auslan can join our lunchtime Auslan group or Year 8s can Auslan as one of their optional subjects. Students who require outside of the classroom alternatives take part in mentored sessions at a local farm, gardening at school and in social support groups.
